25 BEST DESIGNED ESTONIAN BOOKS OF 2005
This competition has been instigated to value beautifully designed books as a part of our intellectual culture.

The first book design competition was held in 1958. The tradition in its present form was restored in 1998 and has been held annually since. 50 publishers brought to the jury 146 books, designed and illustrated by Estonian artists. The 25 best were selected by the Estonian Graphic Designers’ Union, the Estonian Publishers’ Association, the National Library of Estonia and representatives of Estonian printing houses.

The books have been assessed as three-dimensional well-balanced objects whose expressive covers reveal tasteful typography, appropriately structured contents, wisely selected and processed photos, and high-level illustrations. Equal importance has been attached to the choice of printing materials, quality of reproduction and binding.

The 25 selected books are not                             ranked – they are equally                              beautiful.
